League Mailing of June 15th
Subject: 2014-15 Season
From the prespective of the organizers, the Vancouver Doubles Squash League's 2014-15 season start is fast approching. We expect that for the rest of you, it is the furthest thing from your minds.
Unfortunately, we do need to start planning and organizing the coming season. There are the usual questions. For example:
- How many teams is each club going to field this season? And, in which divisions do they expect those teams to be playing?
- How do we organize divisions and keep the league competitive? And at the same time keep league play of value to our players. (That would include trying to meet the expectations of the clubs regarding the perceived level of play for each team.)
Then there is, at least for the coming season, concern about the availability of the Van Lawn doubles court (planned expansion). And, how that will affect the availability of court time, and the number of teams that can be supported in the 2014-15 season.
So, even though we know you think this is too early to start, we would appreciate it if the clubs and/or captains from last season would let us know:
- Which of your teams from last season do you expect will return this coming season?
- Do you expect to field any new teams this coming season?
- Name and contact info for the captain, or at least, the probable or interim captain. (We need a direct contact for each team should discussions regarding a team's status be necessary.)
We have started work on determining the weeks of play for the coming season. However, we do not yet have a finalized tournament schedule from Squash BC. That said, we do currently expect the season to begin Wednesday, September 24. And, we are working on getting a definitive statement on the status of the Van Lawn doubles court for the coming season.
Additionally, we believe that some of the teams, essentially the bottom team in each of the top 3 divisions, need to consider restructuring. It is essential all team members are of a uniform calibre suitable to their division. This was not the case for all teams last season.
