VDSL on Quick-Draws

Captain's Pre-Season Preparations

Overview

VDSL (Vancouver Doubles Squash League) in cooperation with Squash BC uses Quick-Draws. Quick-Draws manages the VDSL schedule, scores, and ranking of doubles players.

Quick-Draws allows you to bookmark several pages within their website.

Let us outline the pre-season procedures:

  1. You need to enter your profile as captain (it may already be there or it may need updating from last year).
  2. Enter your team's members.

Please review our Quick-Draws help page for the login and other procedures on Quick-Draws. NB: to start the season the password for all captains has been reset to a default. If you don't know it, please contact Lynn or Rick.

Update Your Profile

Please remember that your profile will be displayed on a page of the Quick-Draws web site that is available to the public at large. So, you may wish to create an e-mail account on gmail or hotmail to use for your duties as captain.

Once you have updated your profile, please change your password. Save the profile and keep a personal record of your new password.

Add Team Members

This was done for you last year or just left over from a previous year. To start this season all player lists have been removed. You will need to add your team list. The steps to do so are detailed in the help document.

This season we ask that all captains, when entering a player, use the position selections correctly. That is: when you enter a name, the next step is to select 1, 2, or spare. Please, do not be haphazard or lazy about this.

  • Use 1 for core players who are likely to be your best pair.
  • Use 2 for core players who are likely to be your "B" team.
  • For players who are spares, that is, used as necessary to fill in for a regular or core player, designate them as "spare".

You should of course have at least two players designated as "1" and two as "2". If you have a team system of rotating players regularly, add additional players using the above criteria. See the section below about line-ups and spares.

You can always, as the season progresses, add players to your team list. When making a change during the season use the same criteria regarding 1,2, and spare designations.

If you use a spare or core player from another team, add them to your list before the match. That ensures the player will be available for selection when the host captain enters the week's results. In most cases they should be a spare on your list regardless of their designation on another team list.

Team List Example

If you check Lynn's team (Broman or Muckers) you will see that Ed Berwick and Lynn Broman are designated as 1. Richard Martin, Les Jamieson, and Greg Charalambous all as 2. Dave Mazzei and Boyd Muir are not likely to play on a regular basis so are designated as spare.

Please note that does not prevent Lynn from using, say, Greg Charalambous to team up with Ed Berwick any given week.

Line-ups and Spares

When you make up your team each week you will most likely being using your core players. If need be, a spare from your team may be inserted into the line-up. However, life is not always that easy. If you need to go outside your team list check with other teams at your club for spares in your division. Yes, you can use a core player from another team who by reason of a bye, or is just not in the other team's line-up that week. As a guide, both captains should feel that a spare is appropriate and not to bolster a team's sad standings.

"A" Pair and "B" Pair

Each week your best pair will be designated as "A" team and the other "B" team. This season, each week during the schedule A and B pairs alternate between being the first pair to play and second pair to play.

We have not yet determined if this can be shown on the Quick-Draws site. But, on Rick Kochanski's unofficial VDSL web site, the order of play will be clearly identified.

Just Do It!

Enough for now.

Please:

  • Enter/edit your profile.
  • Put in your players with proper designations of 1, 2, or spare.
